New Internet service to go online in WW
(Walla Walla Union Bulletin, Thursday, August 17, 2000)

Walla Walla will have a fourth Internet service provider by the end of the month.

Advantagecom Networks Inc., which has been operating in town as a host for people and businesses with their own Web sites, is expanding to dial-up Internet service, co-owner Andrew Kinney said Tuesday.

The service, which initially will use 56K modems, will operate under the name WallaWallaInternet.com. Kinney and his wife, Amy, own Advantagecom, which operates with 10 employees in the Walla Walla Regional Airport terminal.

Kinney said the company plans to expand further into a leased line service that will offer high-speed data transmission at 1.5 megabits per second.

Other Internet providers based in the Walla Walla area are Blue Mountain Internet, Valley Internet and HighSpeed.com.

Kinney said his service will offer "guaranteed no busy signals" by allowing no more than three subscribers per modem. He said most other providers allow up to six subscribers per modem. The firm will start off with a bank of 96 modems, and Kinney said customers can stay online for as long as they want.

Amy Kinney is a Walla Walla College graduate and Andrew Kinney attended the school before starting Advantagecom.

He said he started using computers in the second grade, and in college taught professors how to set up Web sites and use the Internet.
