For the PC running Windows XP

  1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.

    Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, you will need to select the Start meny, select Settings, then choose Control Panel.

  2. Click the Switch to Classic View icon.

  3. Double-click the Network Connections icon.

  4. Click the Create a new connection icon.

  5. Click the Next button.

  6. Select Connect to the Internet then click the Next button.

  7. Select Set up my connection manually then click the Next button.

  8. Select Connect using a dial-up modem then click the Next button.

  9. In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (i.e. Advantagecom). Click the Next button.

  11.  In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.  For Walla Walla area residents, enter 240-3042.Click the Next button.

  12.  In the User name field, type the user name we assigned to you, in the following format:

    your-username@walla2.com

    In the Password field, type your password.  Your password is case sensitive.

    In the Confirm password field, retype your password.

    Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.

    Check the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.

    Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Firewall for this connection.

    Click the Next button.

  13. Check the box next to Add a schortcut to this connection to my desktop if your wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.  Click the finish button and close all open windows.

  14. From the Start menu, choose Connect To.

    Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, from the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Network Connections.

  15.   Right click your dial-up connection, then choose Properties.

  16. Click on the Networking tab and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list.

    Click on the Properties button.

  17.   Select Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

  18.   Click the OK button then close all remaining open windows and you're done!

If you're unable to connect after following the above setup instructions, check the following items:

  • Is your modem plugged into a phone line? If not, plug it in.
  • Is anyone else talking on that phone line? If so, tell them to hang up and stay off the line.
  • Does your modem function with other connections? If not, consult your modem documentation.
  • Did you put in your username and password coreectly?  They are case sensitive.   Watch our for confusing characters like the following:  1 l I i ! 0 O , . ' ` .  If you used on e of those characters in your password and are unable to connect, contact Technical Support to have them change your password for you.  Before Support will change your password, they will ask for some identifying informaition for security purposes.
